Our Herd

A combination of horses, donkeys and goats, our herd members each bring something different to the table,
as they interact with clients and guests. All of our animals have a story and unique characteristics;
and for everyone who visits, they all connect in different ways. Bios are listed alphabetically.

Name: Abbey Joy
Breed: Miniature Blue-eyed Nubian {2nd Generation}
Age: 9 month [DOB: February 24, 2016]
Size: Miniature
Color: Tri-color – Black and Chestnut with White Moon Spots
History: Abbey, and her sister Snowflake, are our newest additions. They are petite and playful blue-eyed miniature Nubian doelings. A “niece” of our goat River, Abbey came to us from our friend Tammy Seifert at Shy Horse Stable and Supply. Abbey is a sweet, intelligent and interactive goat who has already claimed a place in our hearts, and with all of our guests.
Likes: All humans, doing chores, going on hikes, riding in the truck, sitting on laps
Dislikes: Being left alone

Name: Bridget
Breed: Miniature Donkey
Age: 9
Size: 36”
Color: Chocolate
History: Bridget is our newest donkey to the farm, and she was instantly a favorite. Her kind disposition and love of being groomed makes her a wonderful addition to the herd. Bridget is currently in training to be a Pet Partners Certified Therapy Animal and she will be pairing up with Dottie as a “Sweet Petite” to visit schools, nursing homes and other organizations.
Likes: Dottie, naps and rolling in the dust

Name: Corona – "Doc's Chex Ready"
Breed: Registered Paint (Solid)
Age: 14 [2002]
Size: 16hh
Color: Bay
History: A registered Paint Horse with no painted spots to speak of, Corona is one of those horses who gets along with everyone. A goofy guy with a big personality, he loves to be groomed and go on the trail. There is very little Corona is afraid of (except cameras!), and he will usually try everything at least once.
Likes: Escaping from his stall; and dumping out the grooming bag when you aren't looking
Dislikes: Cameras, being confined in a stall; neatly organized grooming tools

Name: Dash
Breed: Registered Miniature Donkey
Age: 2 [DOB: August 5, 2014]
Size: 32”
Color: Spotted
History: Dash arrived in-utero, unbeknownst to us all; his mother, Dottie, was our very first donkey. Leading up to his arrival, we had already decided to name the baby Dash if it was a colt – to our surprise, he was born with “dash” markings down his back instead of the traditional “Jerusalem Cross” that his mother, father and siblings have. He is a ball of energy, but loves to cuddle; he is truly “our baby.”
Likes: A stall full of shavings and a toy ball filled with treats
Dislikes: Rain

Name: Dottie
Breed: Registered Miniature Donkey
Age: 13 [2003]
Size: 36”
Color: Spotted
History: Dottie was the first donkey we acquired, and unbeknownst to us at the time, she was in foal. She has the sweetest disposition, and is the perfect partner for the littlest kids. She loves to be groomed! In August 2014, she delivered a baby boy, Dash. Dottie is currently in training to be a Pet Partners Certified Therapy Animal and she will be pairing up with Bridget as a “Sweet Petite” to visit schools, nursing homes and other organizations.

Honey, River and Reed are triplets, first-generation blue-eyed Miniature Nubian goats, and have been exceptionally well socialized since birth. They walk well on a leash, and love to lounge on their “spool climber” and playhouse.

Age: 2 [DOB: January 6, 2014]
Size: 38”
Color: Gray
History: Iris came to us as a baby donkey from a local farm. She is a half-sister to Willy, Lottie and Dash. Iris was very timid in the beginning, but now she loves to work with people (unless its meal time – then she would not like to be bothered!) Instead of the typical donkey “bray,” Iris can be heard 'humming', especially at meal time!

History: Kona was born on the 76 Ranch in Arizona. She was purchased by a local North Carolina family when she was 6 months old, and we acquired her last summer. Breed: Registered Missouri Fox Trotter
Age: 20 [DOB: April 28, 1996]
Size: 15.2hh

With beautiful uphill gaits and a metallic palomino color, he is sometimes referred to as “Barbie's Horse” and is a favorite among our younger visitors. Lad was the first horse we introduced to the sensory stations and he approached everything new with confidence. He is our Golden Boy, through and through.

Name: Lola – "Lorelei”
Breed: Registered Hanoverian/TB
Age: 20 [May 1996]
Size: 16.3hh
Color: Flea-bitten Gray
History: Lola was an upper-level dressage horse in her early years. Now, she is enjoying retirement by managing the human work team on the farm, and keeping a close eye on when meals arrive. You can expect to hear her sound the alarm anytime she hears a bucket. She is a sensitive girl who is very particular on who she hangs out with, and how she likes to be groomed; but once you win her over, she's yours forever.

Name: Margaux
Breed: Molly Mule
Age: 9
Size: 15hh
Color: Liver Chestnut
History: Margaux was rescued from a the kill pen at an auction in NJ. Having been through the trauma of the auction, and being discarded by her previous owners, she arrived at the farm very untrusting, and almost feral. As Margaux has warmed up to our ranch family, it is clear that she has training both in harness and under-saddle. She is a lovely mover, with crisp dapples in the summer, and a kind eye. At feeding time, you can hear her “singing” for her meals!
Likes: Orchard grass hay, treats of all kinds and stealing Tom's food
Dislikes: Halters

Name: Orion – "Fairway Drive"
Breed: JC Registered OTTB - Thoroughbred
Age: 13 [April 17, 2003]
Size: 17hh
Color: Black-Bay
History: Funny and sensitive with a celebrity pedigree, Orion is an off-the-track Thoroughbred. He spent 7 years of his life as a racehorse, taking home decent winnings, until a career-ending injury. He is a grandson of the great Secretariat, and can often be seen running joyfully through his pasture. He much prefers his human or duck friends, over other equines.

Breed: Registered Bashkir Curly
Age: Coming 9 (2007)
Size: 15.3hh
Color: Tri-Color Paint

Rae's dad is a very talented Oldenburg gelding, and he shared his impeccable movement (and painted spots!) with her as well. A sensitive soul with a kind heart, Rae tries really hard to please; she bonds strongly, and relies on her people for guidance in all situations.
Likes: Swimming and wafer treats
Dislikes: Veterinarians

Name: Reed {In loving memory}
Breed: Miniature Blue-eyed Nubian
Age: 2 [March 15, 2014-September 22, 2016]
Size: Miniature
Color: Tri-Color
History: Reed was the bravest of our Caprine boys, and also the first goat any of the horses will allow to graze in their fields. Honey, River and Reed are triplets. Unfortunately, we lost Reed in September 2016 to complications with a blocked urethra, a common risk for male goats who have been castrated. An orange rose bush has been planted in Reed's memory and is marked by an engraved stone in our Memorial Garden. Rest in peace, sweet Reed.

History: Scout was one of the original horses on the property, and he is a Trail Machine. Striking in color and markings, he catches your eye immediately. As long as you take him on an adventure, he stays out of mischief.

Color: Bay
History: Taxi is a very smart and well-trained trail horse with lovely gaits. She was living at Rocky Creek when the property was purchased, and we are fortunate to have her as a member of our herd! She is very sweet, and although she has dealt with health and soundness issues in the past, she is one of the safest and most reliable horses under saddle. Her eyes speak to her past, but her nature is sweet, confident and open to connecting with all people.

Name: Tom
Breed: Quarter Horse
Age: 22+
